Impact of Intercrop Combinations in the Management of Gram Pod Borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) in Chickpea

Background: Bengal gram or chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is an important pulse crop grown in North India. The pod borer, Helicovera armigera (Hubner) the major biotic constraint production of and causes heavy losses (20-60%) throughout damage caused by borer starts from early stages continues up to vegetative growth, flowering, poding till maturity crop. larvae feeds on leaves, stem, pods seeds gram, yield mainly occurred due damage. A single larva can destroy 30-40 before attaining maturity. Cultural practices like use different intercrop combinations might be successful avoiding reducing infestation. current study was aimed find out best possible combination for management chickpea. Methods: field experiment conducted at research farm, College Agriculture, SKRAU, Bikaner during Rabi, 2014-15 2015-16 impact Result: intercrops, viz., wheat, barley, mustard, linseed safflower with significantly reduced population H. over sole minimum larval observed chickpea+safflower combination, whereas, maximum chickpea+linseed. highest equivalent (11.93 q ha-1) computed chickpea+barley, (10.17 being chickpea+linseed combination.
